減量期間における空腹感の制御は減量の成否を分ける。
多くの場合、空腹感は安静時に起こりやすい。
これを裏付ける事象として、非安静時に、ストレスによって、副腎髄質などからアドレナリンが分泌されると、脂肪組織でホルモン感受性リパーゼ（HSL：hormon-sensitive lipase）により中性脂肪が分解され、血中に遊離脂肪酸が増加する（ストレスはインスリン抵抗性を惹起する要因になる）。
この遊離脂肪酸が血中に移動し、インスリン抵抗性を高め、血糖値を上昇させ空腹感を抑える。
つまり、アドレナリンを分泌させることで空腹感を抑える事ができる。
アドレナリンを分泌させる方法として有酸素運動が挙げられる。
